Webinar: Teaching Music the Dalcroze Way

Whether we sing or play an instrument, the body is our first instrument. This interactive webinar explores the fundamentals of Dalcroze Eurhythmics: a movement-based method that helps students develop rhythm skills, coordination, memory, and musical expression from the inside out. Learn what Dalcroze is and how you can apply its principles in your music teaching. While Dalcroze is designed to work with any student, it can be especially useful for students with exceptionalities, many of whom learn best through movement. You’ll see demonstrations of many activities that integrate movement and improvisation into lessons, creating a playful and engaging learning environment that nurtures creativity and deepens musical understanding.

About
My name is Mélina Dalaire. I am a bilingual (English and French) music educator with over 35 years of teaching experience. Throughout my career, I have been involved in many projects, including choir directing, supply teaching for elementary school music classes, developing a recorder program for children, and serving as a part-time professor in music education and piano pedagogy at the University of Ottawa. For 31 years, I have been running a successful piano studio in the Ottawa/Gatineau region (Canada). Currently, I am teaching a piano program to a wonderful group of students aged 4 to 60 and offering Dalcroze lessons to groups of children and seniors in collaboration with various community-based and health organizations. I also provide, on request, Dalcroze workshops to musical associations. Additionally, I have the immense pleasure of being part of the teaching staff at CAMMAC, providing piano lessons, chamber music, and Dalcroze classes.
